Since 2000 Jane has been instrumental in helping organise a health improvement programme for children from Belarus, where health has been and continues to be compromised not only by the Chernobyl disaster of 1986 but also high levels of poverty, unemployment and social disadvantage. A main aim of the rolling 5 year programme is to improve the immune systems of each individual child and Homeopathy has proved an invaluable tool in achieving that and changing positively the lives of many young children. See www.focc.org.uk. Treating children forms a large part of Jane's practice and additionally Jane has in the UK set up research projects into how Homeopathy can help children who may have been adversely affected by vaccination. These changes may include social and behavioural issues, sleep disturbances or physical symptoms such as asthma, eczema, glue ear etc. Pregnancy, childbirth and post-partum health concerns also respond very well to Homeopathic treatment and Jane enjoys working with mothers to be to maximise the mother and their baby's health in utero, facilitating positive birthing experiences and good transition into motherhood. Homeopathy offers safe, gentle and effective treatment for the Menopause, Men's Health issues and general well-being for the elderly. Jane's experience has also taken her to India on two occasions; firstly to Calcutta for both study with Dr SK Banerjea as well as experience working in the slum clinics of Calcutta and in private practice. This trip gave particular insight into Indian therapeutic medicines and tinctures to support major organs of the body when compromised i.e. Asthma, Heart conditions, Diabetes etc. During this trip Jane together with a group of colleagues also travelled to Bihar state to work in an orphanage treating over 40 children. Jane's second trip to India was to study with Rajan Sankaran and the "Bombay" Homoeopaths to further extend her experience of working with the "Sensation" methodology to identify the individual's inner state, the unsung "song" which reveals the essence of the patient and remedy required to help facilitate the individual's innate healing process. In the last year Jane has also been involved in teaching 3rd and 4th year students and helping the transition from student to practitioner not only with homeopathic teaching, case reviews and supervision but also in business and marketing training. Jane's former career, prior to having her own children, which lead her into Homeopathy, was as a Commercial Marketing and Sales Director in Blue-Chip companies in the UK. Jane also works with both the The Australian Bush Flower Essences and a unique range of Orchid Essences made by IFER (International Flower Essence Repertory) in the UK. These are often complimentary to the Homeopathic process and may be prescribed as drops or as Aura Sprays.See www.HealingOrchids.com.au. Historically Jane has produced a quarterly newsletter offering advice on treating seasonal acute illnesses, sharing patient experiences of Homeopathy and offering occasional first aid courses for the home/ young mothers to give confidence in treating minor ailments with Homeopathy. Courses and advice for international travel and looking after one's health whilst travelling are also available on request. Substances that can cause symptoms in a healthy person are used to cure similar symptoms in someone who is ill. Homeopathy was developed by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann in the early 1800s. The homeopathic method made its first pronounced impact during the cholera epidemic of 1832 when, by the accounts of all observers, homeopaths had far higher recovery rates than conventional medical doctors. Since the initial research of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann that led to the development of homeopathy as a comprehensive system of medicine, extensive clinical experience, observation and research continue to support its effectiveness. Homeopathy is precise A conventional doctor usually focuses on a limited range of symptoms. The homeopath observes and considers the patients physical, mental and emotional state; for disease reveals a disharmony of the whole person. The initial consultation may therefore take up to 1 ½ hours. The homeopathic treatment is fine-tuned until the prescription matches the patient's idiosyncratic symptoms and constitutional make-up. There are no routine prescriptions in homeopathy. For example two children have asthma: One child is a chubby, complacent, sensitive boy with a tendency to sweat a lot. His asthma attacks occur mostly in the fall and winter. Another boy with asthma is energetic, talkative and likes to pick fights. His asthma occurs mostly at night. These two children, though both with the same condition, need two different homeopathic remedies. Homeopathy is safe In the hands of a well-trained homeopath, all homeopathic medicines are safe and without harmful side-effects. Classical homeopaths use a single remedy at any one time and wait a minimum of four to six weeks to re-prescribe. No invasive methods or machines are used in homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic treatment is long-lasting The aim of all homeopathic treatment is complete cure or lasting remission. Patients who receive homeopathic care usually experience enduring relief from their disorders and a higher level of health and well-being. Homeopathic treatments address the underlying conditions of disease symptoms, so that permanent ease and health are restored. The individual is able to enjoy life more fully. Homeopathy can also enhance palliative care. Who can benefit from homeopathy?Individuals who have to live a restricted lifestyle because of allergic reactions and multiple sensitivities. Homeopathic treatment strengthens the immune system, so that the person can lead a life with fewer restrictions and enjoy a greater range of foods and environments. Individuals who suffer from emotional and mental disorders; e.g., disruptive behaviour disorders, learning and memory disorders, anxiety disorders, phobias, eating disorders, distorted body image, psychotic states, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, post-traumatic/abuse disorder. Individuals who suffer from symptoms that are unresponsive to other treatments and medication; e.g., Myalgic encephalomyelitis, facial tics, Meniere's, restless leg syndrome, non-specific vertigo, chronic pain. Homeopathy treats disorders affecting every system and organ of the body. Individuals who are on medications with unwanted side-effects and who seek either complementary or an alternative and safe treatment. Homeopathy can work well alongside conventional medicine and may help to reduce or in some cases off their drugs; e.g., steroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, antihistamines, antibiotics, hormones, Ritalin, antidepressants, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, immune depressants, hypertension drugs, diuretics, heart medications. Reduction in any conventional drug doses is always the responsibility of the patient to liaise with their MD/GP.
